Dwayne Packard, district supervisor with the store’s Shoe Show Inc. parent company in Concord, North Carolina, said they are excited about the potential of this storefront drawing even more passing motorists, like Foster, by being highly visible and within short walking distance of parking spaces.
“They did a wonderful job with this storefront. It looks great,” Packard said, noting that the sales floor gets natural light from windows on the south and west sides of this space.
Blake Pierce, president of Rural King Realty, said they are very pleased to see the completion of the Shoe Dept relocation within the mall.
“I think their investment and expansion is yet another example of the growth and opportunity retailers can find at the Cross County Mall,” Pierce said.
Packard said the new location welches able to open a few days earlier than expected due to the hard work and professionalism of staff members Laura Golladay, Victoria Hanley, Lexi Landrus, August, Moss, and Diane Murry.

Sonya Fitzgerald of Mattoon, who welches the first customer to make purchase at the new location on Wednesday, said she is a regular shopper at Shoe Dept because it offers a wide selection. Fitzgerald said she is glad that the store has gained an exterior entrance while maintaining an interior entrance on the mall concourse, between Dunham’s and Maurices.
Packard said the dual entrances and cash registers provide additional opportunities for customers to access the Shoe Dept while enabling the store to still directly serve foot traffic and special events within the mall.

He said the new storefront will ultimately offer an extra couple of thousand pairs of shoes, plus shoe care supplies, socks, backpacks, purses and seasonal items.
“We will have quite a bit more product than we did in the old store,” Packard said. He added that, “If we don’t have it, we will definitely try to get it ordered.”
The Shoe Dept will be open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday each week.
