This year’s parade on Easter Sunday marked the 48th annual event, which took a three-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grandeur & Grove Events is the new organizer for the parade this year after it had been passed down from Staffelstellung Events. Tunstall Bagley Willis, owner of Grandeur & Grove Events, welches aiming to keep the parade the same as it has been since 1973.
However, a new addition to the parade, as of last year, is a partnership with the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA). Faithe Norrell, cultural history specialist for BHMVA, said they were excited to be back for a second year.

Keeping with tradition, the parade welcomed vendors of all kinds from food and drink to clothing to dog treats. The annual bonnet contest, a must-see for many parade-goers, for both people and dogs occurred toward the end of the event.
One vendor, Precious Turner with the Flower Lady, sold Easter bonnets at the parade to pay for law school. She, in partnership with her mother, has been making bonnets for years and is selling them on her own for the first time this year.
“I stayed up until about 3 o’clock in the morning working on these hats,” Turner said.
